Position Summary:  

Under the direction of the Meals on Wheels Fleet Operations Manager, s/he will supervise and coordinate assigned activities of Meals on Wheels drivers and perform support activities related to the Meals on Wheels operations. S/he provides planning and performs activities resulting in a timely, damage-free, safe loading/unloading of product and product deliveries on assigned shifts. S/he will also perform necessary activities in the absence of the Meals on Wheels Fleet Operations Manager and the Receiving/Warehouse Manager.  This position will contribute to an effective and cohesive team, oriented to the department’s goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Meals on Wheels Fleet Operations Manager in daily supervision of the drivers along with operations and administration processes. Act as back-up for the Fleet Operations Manager when s/he is unavailable.
  • Supervise all activities of drivers in loading and unloading trucks and in delivering and storing materials or products and assist as needed.  
  • Ensure the safety of the Team Members, the Public and the Food Supply through proper implementation of policies, procedures, practices and appropriate standards that meet or exceed established levels of expectations.
  • Ensure verification of materials and/or products loaded or unloaded against daily route sheets and completed stops.
  • Assist in the delivery of product to clients when needed due to business activity and/or shortage of drivers.
  • Evaluate current practices and identify areas for improvement within budget constraints.
  • Coordinate work assignments while monitoring performance levels and providing training on job duties, company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and improve the performance of Team Members through feedback and coaching.
  • Ensure all reports, requests for information and data is sent to the respective parties in a timely fashion.
  • Protect all confidential information, company property and electronic data.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensure Guest Service standards are enforced and focused on meeting the needs of our Guests and complying with Grant specifications.
  • Maintain proper record keeping regarding refrigeration equipment and the units’ temperatures.
  • Ensure all reports, requests for information and data is sent to the respective parties in a timely fashion.
  • Distribute program literature and material as required.
  • Supervise the issuance of vehicle and driver items and equipment daily.
  • Other related duties as directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, value human dignity and ability to work with a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Proficiency operating computers with experience in Microsoft Office; specifically Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work independently with nominal supervision and follow directions as needed.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Should be flexible, comfortable working with volunteers and able to handle interruptions and unexpected circumstances.
  • Reliable and effective communicator, Guest Service oriented and professional demeanor is required.
  • Culturally sensitive and able to work with a multicultural client/customer population.
  • Strong inter-personal skill set.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Strong customer service and communications skills.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Qualifications:

  • Previous driving and delivery experience is required.
  • Minimum 1 year Supervisor experience is preferred.
  • Ability to drive routes when necessary.
  • Must be at least 25 years old with a valid State of Nevada driver’s license and able to drive routes when necessary. Must also have and maintain current minimum Nevada state required auto insurance.
  • Must be familiar with the Las Vegas road grid (including the strip & convention) & surrounding cities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work environment entails outdoors, office, vehicle and meeting environments.
  • Must be able to get in and out of delivery vehicle repeatedly throughout the day as necessary.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, drivers, staff and volunteers is critical.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand.  Ability to regularly walk.  Ability to climb stairs as needed.  Ability to enter and exit cab of delivery vehicles as necessary.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, and pull, twist and grip items with or without assistance.
  • May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; regularly lift 30 pounds.
